Graeme Bandeira, the Yorkshire Post’s cartoonist for 23 years, has joined The Northern Agenda.
Middlesbrough-born Bandeira left the title in January and will now do an exclusive weekly cartoon with his take on Northern politics for the Reach title.
He said it was “fantastic to be back on the horse diving deep into the murky world of politics…I look forward to holding those in power to account and championing the North.”
The winner of Britain’s Best Political Cartoon in 2020 added that he wasn’t enamoured by the race to be the country’s next Prime Minister, but was looking forward to “getting back out there”:
“I just see the challenge between Rishi and Truss as very, very flat now. I would liken the leadership challenge to being the last dinners at school, and you’ve got a choice of semolina and battered spam.
“And whoever gets it we’re in for a rough ride and more of the same, I’m afraid. That’s just my quirky political stance, but obviously other people may think differently. I’m just looking forward really to ridiculing, to humouring and to getting back out there.”
His cartoons will also feature in Reach’s Sunday print titles in Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle.
“I’m delighted to have someone of Graeme’s calibre contributing to our newsletter and am confident he’ll help The Northern Agenda reach a new audience across the North and beyond,” added Northern Agenda Editor Rob Parsons.
