The first speakers at the inaugural Yorkshire Games Festival at Bradford’s National Media Museum have been confirmed.
They include Rhianna Pratchett, the scriptwriter for the recent Tomb Raider games and Charles Cecil MBE, the co-founder of Revolution Games.
“Yorkshire and Humber is a huge player in the global games industry, with more than nine per cent of the UK games industry based in the region, and the Yorkshire Games Festival is an unrivalled opportunity to celebrate the great games created here as we welcome an incredible line-up of guests from across the UK and overseas,” said festival director, Kathryn Penny.
Pratchett will talk about being a “narrative paramedic” for video games, such as Heavenly Sword, Mirror’s Edge and two recent Tomb Raider titles. Meanwhile Cecil, who co-founded Revolution Software in York in the 90s will discuss the narrative driven adventure games that he’s created.
There will also be appearances from Warren Spector (via video link), who was behind the development of Deus Ex and Epic Mickey, plus Gary Napper, game director at Supermassive Games.
A family weekend will be headlined by Hannah Rutherford, a contributor to YouTube and Twitch network, the Yogcast, which has more than 20m subscribers and generated more than 6bn views.
The event takes place in November.
