The production company behind Who Do You Think You Are? and New Tricks has opened a Northern base and appointed experienced award-winning executive Sian Palfrey to take charge of it.

Wall to Wall, part of Warner Bros Television Studios UK, has today launched Wall to Wall North in Manchester to focus on developing and producing drama in the North of England.

Most recently it has been confirmed as behind the upcoming BBC One and iPlayer series of Waterloo Road in collaboration with Rope Ladder Fiction, which is being co-produced from Manchester.

Wall to Wall North will be headed up by Sian Palfrey as Executive Producer. An award-winning producer and executive, Palfrey was most recently Head of Development at Rollem Productions, where work included BBC Three drama Overshadowed.

She will lead the studio’s expansion of scripted programming, with a focus on developing new projects with a “Northern skew”, as well as investing in local and regional talent.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Wall to Wall to set up their ambitious new drama hub in the North,” said Sian Palfrey. “Leanne and the team feel as strongly about championing the next generation of northern storytellers as I do and Wall to Wall North is an amazing opportunity to collaborate with the wealth of extraordinary talent we have in the area and to grow and nurture new voices from the region and beyond.”

Palfrey has worked on drama in the North of England for more than a decade, having collaborated with the BBC, BBC Writersroom and Leeds Playhouse to launch a scheme identifying and mentoring new writing talent. Her credits include producing the RTS-winning My Left Nut for BBC Three, as well as NTA-nominated Girlfriends for ITV.

Leanne Klein, Managing Director and Head of Wall to Wall, added: “I am delighted to be welcoming Sian to Wall to Wall as we launch our Northern base. Sian is a fantastic creative producer, with her roots firmly in the north.

“With Waterloo Road in production in Manchester, it’s the perfect time to be investing in talent in the region and I’m thrilled that Sian has come on board to lead the charge.”
