The Welsh Government has appointed Manchester’s MirrorWeb to archive its online presence.
The 3 year contract will see its dual-language websites and social media history stored in the cloud and available to search by its Information and Archive Services Team.
MirrorWeb has developed a series of tools to enable frequent archiving of web and social assets for businesses, allowing billions of documents to be indexed.
“We’re proud to be preserving a future-proof digital record of the Welsh Government’s online activity. Our website and social media archiving and monitoring platform is built on the cloud and provides the essential infrastructure and capacity to meet the size and complexity of the Welsh Government’s archive,” explained Philip Clegg, chief technical officer at MirrorWeb.
“This will modernise how the content is captured and stored, and provide the Welsh Government with a reliable, comprehensive and intuitive search service of Wales’ digital history.”
To date, they’ve received around 1.8m pages of its current historical archive, around 20TB of data. The company will now crawl through sites and social media channels to maintain an up-to-date archive.
