Wayne Rooney will make his debut as a BBC Sport FA Cup pundit for Manchester United’s trip to Nottingham Forest in the fifth round of the cup.
BBC Sport is showing live coverage of four FA Cup Fifth Round matches on BBC One and iPlayer, including Rooney’s former side, as United travel to Nottingham to take on Forest at the City Ground.
Rooney said: “Watching the BBC’s coverage of the FA Cup every year was always very special growing up, I’m so excited to be joining up with the team to cover what will undoubtedly be an action-packed tie in this historic competition. Having played and managed in the competition, it’s great be on the other side of the camera this time and hopefully I can bring some of that FA Cup experience to the coverage.”
The Fifth Round of world football’s oldest knockout competition takes place this week, from February 26-28, with live coverage of matches across BBC One, radio and online, plus TV highlights from every game. This season’s FA Cup has already smashed viewing records on BBC Sport, with a peak of 7.6m when Liverpool knocked out Arsenal in the third round.
Of the eight ties, four are available to watch exclusively live on BBC TV or via iPlayer. Blackburn Rovers v Newcastle United is on at 7.30pm on Tuesday February 27 via BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport, and BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds, while Bournemouth v Leicester City is iPlayer the same evening. Manchester United’s visit to Nottingham Forest, is on BBC One, iPlayer and BBC Sport at 7.30pm the following night while Wolverhampton Wanderers v Brighton & Hove Albion is on iPlayer.
There will also be highlights of all eoght games on BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport Website and App, and BBC Radio will provide live match commentary for all eight fixtures on BBC Radio 5 Live, local BBC radio and BBC Radio Wales. The BBC Sport website, app and social channels will also share the latest news the highlights, audio commentary, live text and online.
