Stephen Graham’s new Netflix series, Adolescence has already received critical acclaim for its “one shot” production and here’s how it happened.
Starring Ashley Walters and Erin Doherty, the Warp Films series tells the story of how a family’s world is turned upside down when 13 year old Jamie Miller (newcomer, Owen Cooper) is arrested and charged with the murder of a teenage girl who goes to his school.
Shot on location at Production Park in Wakefield, it was directed by Philip Barantini, with each episode being film in one continuous shot, holding focus the main characters and the drama as it unfolds in real time.
Here is a behind the scenes video of how they achieved this:
Barantini previously worked with Graham on Boiling Point, which was filmed in a similar style.
Adolescence is produced by Sheffield’s Warp Films, Plan B and Matriarch Productions.
It was written by Graham and Jack Thorne. The executive producers are Mark Herbert and Emily Feller for Warp Films and Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters, Jack Thorne, Philip Barantini, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner and Nina Wolarsky.
The producer is Jo Johnson.
The trailer is here and it’s on Netflix now.
