Wash creates ad for MG depicting fossil-fuelled drivers as dinosaurs

Preston’s Wash Studio has released a new TV campaign for iconic British motoring brand MG that proclaims a new era of electric.

MG are the UK’s fastest growing car brand and a leader in mainstream electric cars.

Wash’s campaign was filmed in north Wales amid Covid restrictions and casts drivers of fossil-fuelled cars as dinosaurs. While a family heads off for a weekend camping in their electric MG ZS EV, the viewer sees the world through the eyes of a little girl in the back seat.

As the family drives past neighbours, passers-by and other drivers, she sees them all in inflatable dinosaur suits.

Andy Walmsley, Creative Director of Wash Studio, said: “Step back just a little and look at cars like the MG electric range, and we can see that the pace of change has been absolutely staggering.

“In just a few years, these vehicles have come from pipedreams and prototypes to the here and now. There’s no turning back. There’s a serious message here about responding to a huge global challenge, but we’re making it a feel-good ad that pokes fun at those still clinging to the petrol pump.

“You can either be part of the new world, or you can live like a dinosaur – blissfully unaware of the meteor that’s about to pay a visit.”

Daniel Gregorious, MG’s Head of Sales & Marketing, added: “In many ways the TV ad is a bit of fun – it sends the message that it’s a new era not just for MG but for motoring in general as consumers embrace electricity and leave petrol and diesel power behind.

“But it also delivers a really important message – that these ‘cars of the future’ are with us now and that, thanks to MG, they really are now an affordable and practical choice for everyone and for everything.

“This year already almost one third of our new car sales are electric and in 2021 we expect more than half our sales to be electric cars. The new era is officially here.”
