Waracle acquires Screenmedia to create 200-strong tech firm

Dundee-based tech firm, Waracle, has acquired Screenmedia for an undisclosed sum.

The move creates a 200-strong company, with offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and London.

Waracle is one of the UK’s largest mobile app and digital product developers and received £4.8m in investment from BGF in 2019. That cash was to support “organic expansion” and expanding its geographic reach.

“We are ready for the new wave of AI-enhanced, intelligent customer experiences. This is a strategic business decision to continue our growth. We reviewed what we needed to succeed going forward and this acquisition was a key part of the answer,” explained Waracle CEO, Chris Martin.

Martin added that this was “the first step” in its plans to grow by acquiring “design and technology services agencies, with complementary skillsets.”

Screenmedia, which was established in 2004, employs more than 60 staff in Glasgow. Its client list includes Britvic, Virgin Money, Next and Channel 4.

“Waracle has an impressive track record across regulated industries and our team at Screenmedia have a broad cross-section of sector experience,” said Screenmedia’s owner, Kenny Shaw.

“I think our new, combined organisation will make us a formidable force in Scotland’s technology consultancy space.”

Waracle was formed in 2008, as a spin-out from Abertay University. It’s since achieved revenues in excess of £20m.
