Wagatha Christie lawyers to launch podcast

London's Central Criminal Court, Michael D Beckwith

The Liverpool lawyers who represented Coleen Rooney during her ‘Wagatha Christie’ libel case against Rebekah Vardy are to launch a podcast to talk about their experiences.

Brabners’ head of litigation Paul Lunt and his colleague, senior associate Jamie Hurworth will host the series.

The case, brought by Vardy against fellow footballer’s wife Rooney, played out over several days in May at the high court in central London. Rooney had alleged that stories from her private Instagram account were being leaked by Vardy to journalists at the Sun. Vardy said this was false and sued Rooney in an attempt to clear her name.

The three-year saga finally came to a close on July 29, when Mrs Justice Steyn handed down her verdict that Vardy had lost her case.

Announcing the news of the forthcoming podcast on LinkedIn, Huworth said: “Following Brabners successful involvement in the Rebekah Vardy v Coleen Rooney ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial, we are creating a special podcast series with myself and Paul Lunt as hosts.

The podcast aims to give a view ‘behind the curtain’, discussing the legal hurdles we faced during the case and, crucially, answering from a legal perspective any burning questions from our audience which you may have felt were unanswered or unexplained.”

Huworth added that, with this in mind, listeners are welcome to ask their own questions or suggest possible topics for discussion, inviting them to either post their thoughts in the replies to his announcement or message him personally.

Head of litigation Lunt has previously represented high profile clients including The Rugby Football League, Nichols Plc (Vimto), TJ Morris (Home Bargains), Arnold Clark, Chester Racecourse and Phoenix Sports Management.

The duo have not yet revealed when they expect the first episode of the podcast to air.
