The Weinstein Company has acquired US distribution rights to Screen Yorkshire-backed drama Peaky Blinders, the hit BBC2 gangster drama.
The deal includes TV and subscription VoD distribution rights for three series – although the BBC has so far only commissioned two – with an option to acquire future series.

Produced by Caryn Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect, the Birmingham-set drama averaged audiences of 2.4m when it launched in September.
Created by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises), it is directed by Otto Bathurst (Hustle) and stars Cillian Murphy, Sam Neill and Helen McCrory.
The majority of the filming actually took place in Yorkshire and Liverpool, with the six-part series one of the first projects funded through Screen Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Content Fund.
The Weinstein Company is better known in the film industry, with recent pictures including The Artist, The King’s Speech and Silver Linings Playbook, but has signalled its ambitions to become more active in the TV market.
The sale was negotiated by distributor Endemol.
