An American tech firm says it is looking to buy Bradford City, believing that crypto and NFTs could be a football “game-changer.”
WAGMI United told Washington Post that it was in the “advanced stages” of purchasing an English Football League club and could do so using cryptocurrency as a significant source of funding.
Today, Bradford City AFC’s Chairman, Stefan Rupp responded to the speculation:
“Despite various reports claiming a change of ownership is imminent, I can confirm it is not.
“Yesterday, I received an e-mail from a representative of the WAGMI United group with an offer to purchase Bradford City AFC.
“That is all I have received, nothing more, and no further action has taken place.”
WAGMI claimed that their main aim was to take the EFL club they bought into the Premier League.
The group is led by sports gambling analyst, Preston Johnson and Eben Smith, a former derivatives trader. Other members include Philadelphia 76ers’ Team President, Daryl Morey and Gary Vaynerchuk, who’s recently invested in Steven Bartlett’s Web3.
NFTs, or Non-fungible tokens are unique digital assets, such as drawings, music, with most of the buzz around digital art.
