BBC Studios, the broadcaster’s commercial arm, is proposing to between 10 and 13 production and development job cuts in its Kids division.
BBCS reportedly told staff last week that the Kids & Family division must lose some permanent roles in a bid to reduce downtime costs as it focuses increasingly on lower-volume, higher-value productions, animation and live action shows.
It said roles on productions with “minimal downtime” and those that will run for one year or longer will not be impacted. Most of the redundancies will take place in Salford with some roles also closing in Glasgow and London.
A BBCS spokesman told Broadcast: “As BBC Studios Kids & Family navigates a challenging market and increases its production focus on live action and animation, the business needs more flexibility to better resource peak periods and reduce downtime costs.
“Regrettably, this means we are proposing to close a number of permanent roles and we have now entered into a period of consultation with the staff members impacted.”
The Kids division’s portfolio includes CBeebies favourites Bluey, Hey Duggee, JoJo & Gran Gran and CBBC’s Deadly Mission Shark.
