The University of Sunderland has officially opened its new £1.6m esports, law and market research facilities.
It’s part of a £250m investment by the university to transform both its Sunderland and London campuses.
“The esports, market research and moot court facilities are all designed to develop student knowledge and, critically, employability skills,” explained Professor Lawrence Bellamy, Academic Dean of the Faculty of Business, Law and Tourism at the University of Sunderland.
“Employability is at the heart of the University of Sunderland’s educational ethos, and we are committed to providing the very best learning environment for our students. Ensuring that our graduates complete their programmes with the skills they need to secure a great career is our priority – and I am confident that these new facilities will help them achieve that.”
The esports facility includes an international competition spec racing rig and flight simulator; 10 laptops, plus facilities for live broadcast; and rooms for audiences, “chill-out” and group activities.
The market research investment features a brain scanner to detect responses to visual cues, supporting the development of stimulating market capital and eye-tracking software.
It has also invested in a simulation lab, for financial and business simulations, plus virtual reality headsets for VR tourism development projects and green screen for event broadcast and marketing content development.
Finally it has created a Law (Moot) Court for visual and audio capture of a mock court environment.
