Viking FM is to co-locate with Hallam FM in Sheffield, bringing to an end a 35-year spell in Hull.

Bauer Media has accounced that Viking’s broadcast offering will be moving to its Sheffield studios to ensure “access to the very best technology and resource” and a “more vibrant creative environment”.

Viking, which has been based on Commercial Road in Hull since launching in 1984, will have only one remaining local show once Bauer rolls out its networked drivetime show next month.

Breakfast with Alex Duffy and Ellie Brennan will be broadcast in Sheffield from October 2nd.

Viking’s local news and commercial teams will remain in Hull.

Former DJ Mark Lonsdale described the news as a “truly sad day for local radio”, while BBC Radio Humberside presenter James Piekos said it was “sad news”.
