Trinity makes senior appointments following Northern & Shell acquisition

This morning, Trinity Mirror completed the acquisition of Northern & Shell’s publishing assets.

It has led to a number of senior appointments, including confirmation that Mark Hollinshead would be on a management team to “aid the smooth transition” of titles over to Trinity.

Hollinshead was previously chief operating officer of Trinity and had previously led a review of its regional operations.

He will be joined on the team by Neil Benson, who last year stepped down as editorial director of its regional operations; former finance director Andrew Round; and ex-group financial controller, Paul Wilks.

On the national titles, Hugh Whittow is to retire as editor of the Daily Express, while Daily Star editor-in-chief, Dawn Neesom is pursue a freelance writing and broadcasting career.

Their replacements are Sunday Mirror and Sunday People editor, Gary Jones, who’s been named editor-in-chief of the Express. 

His role has been filled by Peter Willis, who moves across from the Daily Mirror, with Alison Phillips becoming Daily Mirror editor.

Jon Clark has been appointed seven day editor-in-Chief of the Daily Star. He has been associate editor at the Daily Mirror since 2013.
