Cumbria Tourism and Cumberland Council are working on a new advertising campaign to showcase the area’s food and drink offering.
The 3-month promotion has received £75,000 from the Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and is being supported by the local council and Sellafield.
The main aim is to promote everything from small producers and family-run cafes, to fine dining restaurants, breweries and distilleries, in order to attract visitors within a 2 hour drive-time of the region.
It’s also hoping to encourage food and drink businesses to source local produce and collaborate with fellow operators.
“We are excited about the launch of this new campaign, highlighting both high-quality locally sourced produce and culinary expertise,” said Managing Director of Cumbria Tourism Gill Haigh.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to support both existing and new businesses and we’re proud to be working alongside Cumberland Council to really shine a light on the incredible breadth of delicious food and drink that can be found locally.”
The campaign is free to join for any food and drink related business with the Cumberland Council area.
“Food and drink are an important part of our visitor economy and are an essential part of a day out and holiday stay,” added Cllr Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places.
“We want to celebrate local produce farm to fork, fresh fish landed on our coast – everything from fish and chips, local ice cream, best brew beer, tea, coffee and whiskey or even a simple sandwich with a bowl of homemade soup after a walk to high end fine dining. The innovation of our chefs to the celebrity service of our waiting on staff, first job to career in hospitality, cupcake entrepreneurs and our foodie events are all top class and should be showcased.”
