The BBC’s head of drama North, Tom Sherry, is to stand down after five years in the role at MediaCityUK.

Sherry was appointed head of drama, North, in May 2017, and counts the Jimmy McGovern-penned, Sean Bean starrer Time and Irish thriller Smother among his most successful recent EP credits at the BBC.

Prior to his senior role at the BBC, Sherry also served as a line producer on the 1999 Channel 4 smash Mancunian drama Queer as Folk, and as executive producer at Manchester’s Red Production. He has also held senior roles at Tiger Aspect and Wall to Wall.

Currently no details as to Sherry’s replacement, or his own future plans, have been made public. The BBC has confirmed that a succession annoucement will be made in due course.
