Channel 4 has confirmed that Olympian, Tom Daley, will front its new series, Game of Wool (working title)
In his first major presenting role, Daley will oversee the 8×60 minute knitting competition from Glasgow’s Hello Halo.
The 10 ambitious knitters will take on a series of complex challenges as they compete to become the UK’s first TV knitting champion.
“I am very excited, and slightly nervous, to be taking on my first ever hosting role on a project that encompasses everything I’m passionate about,” said Daley.
“I adore all things knitting and encourage everyone to pick up some knitting needles and give it a go! I cannot wait to see the creations our knitters will weave together, and hope this inspires people at home to get involved too!”
Set against the countryside of rural Scotland, each episode sees the knitters tackle two challenges: a group knit where they’ll be working together in teams on an extremely complex project, and then an individual knit where they’ll take on individual briefs.
The judges will include Di Gilpin and Sheila Greenwell, known for their work knitting for fashion brands such as Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Nike.
“We’re thrilled to have Tom as our host, there really couldn’t be a more perfect fit as he’s now known for his knitting skills almost as much as his Olympic diving successes!” said Wendy Rattray, Executive Producer.
“Anyone can knit and Tom reflects a whole new generation who have picked up the needles and let their imaginations run wild.”
Game of Wool was commissioned by Senior Commissioning Editor Clemency Green with Head of Lifestyle Jo Street. Executive producers for Hello Halo are Wendy Rattray and Joff Wilson with Alice Almond as Series Editor. The series is supported by Screen Scotland.
