The creator of the Teletubbies has said she is “sad” that the hugely successful 1990s children’s show is being remade by CBeebies.
Anne Wood, who also produced In the Night Garden, told the Radio Times that she would not be watching the remake, which is due to air on the channel later this year.

She said: “There are such a lot of programmes being remade and I just feel the children’s television industry is worth more than that.
“It comes down to the times we’re in: people feel safer remaking hits of the past rather than investing in something new.”
Wood no longer owns the rights to the Teletubbies, which she co-created with Andrew Davenport, after selling them in 2013 to help fund new programmes.
She also criticised the current trend of reviving old classics rather than creating new content.
She added: “There are such a lot of programmes being remade and I just feel the children’s television industry is worth more than that. It would be nice if more encouragement was given to new work.”
Wood’s new “situation comedy for three to four-year-olds”, Twirlywoos, debuts on CBeebies next week.
