Guests with bookings at a Manchester hotel have been hit by an unfortunate technical error that has seen their bookings cancelled on the same dates as Oasis have announced their reunion gigs in the city in 2025.
Travellers staying at the Maldron Hotel, which operates two locations in Manchester city centre, have received messages through booking operators informing them their reservations could not be upheld due to a ‘technical error’.
The error came as affordable hotel rooms in and around the city swiftly disappeared from booking sites for the dates of Oasis’ long-awaited return in 2025, with many shooting up in price by hundreds of pounds. Both the Manchester City Centre and Manchester Cathedral Quarter Maldron websites currently list the hotels as fully booked for the nights of the rockers’ four gigs between July 11 and 20.
Manchester nighttime hospitality tsar and recently retired Warehouse Project and Parklife chief Sacha Lord is among those taking the hotel, which is owned by Irish hospitality group Dalata, to task on social media:
A spokesperson for parent Dalata told Prolific North that the cancellations were due to a “technical error” that had affected bookings made on August 26 and 27 only, that all bookings made prior to these dates were being upheld, and that bookings made with the Maldron’s sister Clayton Hotel, which also has two sites in Manchester, were unaffected by the glitch.
An official statement added that, due to the technical error, more rooms were listed to book than were available for the nights of next year’s Oasis concerts at Heaton Park.
“As a result, we are unable to honour all bookings made on these dates, and we are actively engaging with customers regarding their bookings,” the statement added.
The hotel added that it is “investigating the issue” and reassured customers that this was “not an attempt to resell rooms at inflated prices.”
