Strong Northern showing in 2024 BAFTA TV nominations

Nominations for this year’s BAFTA TV Awards have been announced, with Steve Coogan, Happy Valley, Sarah Lancashire and Hullraisers among some of the key Northern contenders for this year’s edition of the most prestigious awards in British TV.

The final season of Netflix’s The Crown leads this year’s Bafta TV Award nominations with eight, despite controversy over its depiction of the Royal Family and lukewarm reviews (Diana’a ghost anyone?).

Sally Wainwright’s Sarah Lancashire-starring, Yorkshire-set cop drama Happy Valley tied for second with seven nominations alongside the distinctly Northern-set, but sadly Harrow-shot Black Mirror episode, Demon 79.

Honourable regional mentions also go to nominees including Zinc’s doc Putin Vs The West; The Coronation Concert and Eurovision, who made it two out of three Northern nominees for Live Event Coverage; BBC Sport’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Coverage, and Scottish nods for David Tennant and Lockerbie.
