Stockport LGBTQ+ daily news podcast lands ‘Acast Recommends’ status less than a year after launch

Stockport-produced PRIDE Daily, which claims to be the world’s only daily LGBTQ+ news podcast, has landed ‘Acast Recommends’ status less than a year after launch in October 2023.

Produced and presented by Stockport-based former BBC and Key 103 broadcaster Kev McGrath, it’s a two minute update of the top three global stories of interest to LGBTQ+ listeners which, despite the branding, McGrath says is for everyone: “If you’re not on board the LGBTQ+ bus yourself, you definitely know someone who is!”

Acast, the platform-agnostic independent podcast host with over 430m monthly listeners, has recently been championing PRIDE Daily as part of its ‘Acast Recommends’ campaign. This has seen 30-second promotions inserted around Acast content, leading to a rise in listenership.

Recently stories covered include a top gender surgeon labelling JK Rowling “somewhat ill-informed” over her transgender views; Australia’s government u-turning on plans to exclude a question on sexuality from its census; plans for Pride at an African refugee camp where queer people are persecuted; why a Texas brewery is launching a Big Gay Beer, and a German artist’s book of Queer Horses.

Whilst the majority of the audience is based in the UK, US and Australia, PRIDE Daily also has listeners in countries as diverse as Brazil, India, Japan and Russia.

Prior to launching the podcast, McGrath was a broadcast journalist on radio stations including BBC Radio 5live, LBC, Times Radio, Capital, Galaxy Manchester and Key 103.

PRIDE Daily has also been a part of LGBTQ+ radio station Virgin Radio Pride over the summer, alongside comedian Tom Allen, Bradley Riches from Heartstopper and DJ Jodie Harsh. The podcast will soon celebrate 300 episodes and is available on all major podcast platforms.
