Smart replacement for Colin Murray at BBC Radio 5 Live

Gordon Smart will replace Colin Murray on 5 Live’s late weeknight slot from next year.

As well as presenting his 8pm-10pm Sunday show, Smart will host the 10pm-1am slot from Monday to Thursday.

“I am thrilled to be given the weeknights gig on 5 Live. It has been such a privilege working with the hugely talented team here over the last 18 months. The welcome I’ve been given from staff and listeners has been really special and I’m really looking forward to getting to know them even better,” he said.

“I love the station and have been a huge fan for a long time. I can’t wait to get stuck in alongside some of the best in the business.”

Smart presents the shows from Glasgow and Salford.

“Late night radio listeners need a presenter who’s great company, and Gordon definitely is that. A sharp journalist and brilliant storyteller with great sporting insights, Gordon will be a fantastic companion for our evening audiences,” added BBC Radio 5 Live Controller, Heidi Dawson.

He’ll begin on 1st January.

Murray is leaving the weeknight show for “personal scheduling issues” but will remain on 5 Live to do Friday afternoons and a new Sunday morning sports show.
