Sky’s North of England correspondent reveals “nightmare” coronavirus battle

Rashid

Sky’s North of England correspondent Inzamam Rashid has revealed a battle with coronavirus which he said was “something I could never wish on my worst enemy”.

Rashid was suspended for three months by the broadcaster in December after it was revealed he was one of two reporters to have attended an illegal party hosted by Kay Burley which saw the presenter taken off air for six months.

He has now revealed he, his father and mother tested positive for coronavirus on December 28th.

Tweeting about a “nightmare” month, he said: “After a couple of days of dizziness and headaches, it became so clear that Coronavirus is no normal flu. I’m adamant I’ve already had it, but this time it was like a big red bus had hit me and then reversed and hit me again and not stop for 14 days.

“My body was in agony, I was sleeping in pools of sweat, I was shivering like I was stood naked in the Antarctic, I was coughing so hard that I’d lose my breath and desperately gasp for some air. But the hardest thing for me was I had no control over my mind.

“Hallucinations, horrible dreams, head constantly spinning. Physically I was broken, I could accept that – but mentally I had no power over my thoughts and they would consume me day and night.”

Rashid said he received oxygen treatment and while his mother had no symptons, his father was “ravaged” by the virus and has been left “crippled” as a result.

“It was touch and go. To the point he had a discussion with me about the will. It broke my heart,” added Rashid.

The 26-year-old said he hoped that by revealing his experience he would help to convince more BAME people to take up the offer of a vaccine.

“I hope this thread can help even one BAME person to ignore the myths, the lies, the idiotic commentary about the vaccines and take it. Because you don’t want this virus, trust me.”
