Sky targets darts with new Dorothy St Pictures series

The indie behind Coleen Rooney’s Wagatha Christie film for Disney+ is taking on darts.

The sport has hit the headlines with 16-year-old Luke Littler’s unbelievable journey to the final of this year’s PDC World Championship. The Warrington teenager lost to Luke Humphries in last night’s final. It gave Sky Sports its highest ever non-football audience of 4.8m.

Now Dorothy St Pictures and US-based Meadowlark Media are getting an all access pass to the world of darts in a new 3-part series, with the working title, Darts.

“As documentary storytellers, we were mesmerised by the world of professional darts,” said Julia Nottingham, Founder, Dorothy St Pictures.

“We are so excited to share the stories behind this great British sport that is fast winning new audiences and hosts such compelling characters.”

The series will track action from pre-tournament preparation to the final and beyond. It will follow up-and-coming hopefuls, top-seeded players and the families who support their careers.

“This year’s World Championship has shown how Darts can captivate the nation,” added Tom Barry Commissioning Editor, Sky Documentaries.

“Going beyond just the competition, for the first time, we are thrilled to be bringing audiences closer to the action and give them a glimpse of what it takes to make it to the top.”

It will be available on Sky and NOW later in the year.

“We’re ecstatic to be working alongside Dorothy St in capturing the thrill of the darts at this year’s World Championship,” said John Skipper, CEO, Meadowlark Media.

“The PDC and Sky have allowed us to cement the stories of Alexandra Palace, which we are confident will resonate on a global scale. We’re grateful for the opportunity. “

It’s co-produced in conjunction with the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation).
