Skiddle turns music ticketing experience “on its head” with new app

Skiddle, the Preston-based what’s on guide and ticketing outlet, has released a new mobile phone app.

Created entirely in-house, it’s described as a “one-stop-shop for music lovers.”

Currently “Top Pick” on the Apple Store, the app enables users to discover and plan events and book tickets, as well as offering a personalised experience based on music preferences.

“The overhaul of the Skiddle App is our most significant to date and we’re delighted to roll out this bespoke selection of updates to our customers. Typically, ticketing Apps exist to sell tickets rather than act as an event discovery experience. This significantly hampers user participation and limits exposure to a fantastic range of gigs, club nights and festivals,” explained Ben Sebborn, co-founder and technical director of Skiddle.

“We have turned the experience on its head, greeting customers at the start of their journey, exposing them to relevant and exciting events and acting as a one-stop shop: event guide, discovery platform and ticketing outlet.”

Sebborn added that the new update means that each homepage is personalised to the user, while the app became “more intelligent” with use, by tailoring events using the company’s big data platform and a “specific algorithm designed by on-site data scientists.” This machine learning allows the app to suggest specific new events and artists to customers.

“This update incorporates a vast range of bespoke features, with every aspect of the homepage personalised to the user’s unique tastes and ticket purchasing history. We have also paid attention to user reviews and suggestions, developing features such as bookmarking and saving events, Facebook integration and event suggestions for special occasions,” continued Sebborn.

“We are incredibly excited to be at the forefront of App innovation and development and we are looking forward to the response to this latest roll-out.”
