Ian Singleton has been appointed editor of the BBC Sport website.
He takes over from Stuart Rowson, who became Younger Audiences Editor as part of a reshuffle announced before Christmas.
Singleton joined BBC Sport shortly after the department’s move from London to Salford in 2011. He was previously news editor at the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
“[Ian] has played a crucial role in our digital success,” Ben Gallop, head of interactive at BBC Sport, wrote in an email to staff. “Most recently he has been our social media lead and has achieved significant impact by focusing on a new tone and content offer, working closely with production teams across our division.
New year, new role…
I am both delighted and proud to be starting work today as online editor for @BBCSport .

“He has helped deliver innovation on key platforms like Facebook Live and Snapchat, while driving record referrals back to BBC Sport.”
Gallop added that Singleton would “play a crucial part in the implementation of our ‘Sport in the 2020s’ strategy”.
