The shortlist has been revealed for this year’s University Entrepreneurs Grant business competition.

Three university students will pitch their business idea to a live audience at the Educate North Awards in Manchester on April 26th, with the winner walking away with £1,000 and a mentor to create a full business plan.

During the awards event, the audience will deliberate and then deliver their verdict.

Last year’s winner was Emma Woollard from The University of Chester (pictured), who wowed the audience with a business that teaches foreign languages in informal surroundings, The Language Guys.

The grant is supported by CCL Digital, the Manchester-based digital marketing solutions company.

The Educate North Awards celebrates, recognises and shares best practice and excellence in the higher, further and sixth form sectors and is supported by Prolific North and Communicorp, UK owners of Heart Yorkshire, Smooth North West and North East, as well as The Ministry of Results and a series of category sponsors.

The shortlist is as follows:

  • Sharmaine Mundozo from University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) with her business idea Joy Pad, a web-based live chat service for A level students to explore and gain support
  • Conner Romain and Daniel O’Connor from Blackpool and the Fylde University with World 360, a visual media provider that specialises in virtual tours, aerial photography/videography, video, photography and social media marketing
  • Rukhsana Razaq with her idea to create extendable baby clothes offering longer use, value for money and an environmentally friendly product

Antonia Furness, co-founder and chief operations officer at UEG sponsors CCL Digital, said: “We are passionate about supporting and investing in our young entrepreneurs of the future, and we believe the University Entrepreneurs Grant is a fantastic platform for them to showcase their talent.”
