Sharing the Love (Hearts): Swizzels seeks Ultimate Super Fan for 95th birthday celebrations

Flaunt Digital has been appointed by Swizzels to run a campaign celebrating the famed sweetmaker’s 95th birthday.

New Mills-HQd Swizzels is one of the largest and best-known confectionary companies in the UK. Having manufactured sweets since 1928, it has created memorable sweets including Drumstick Lollies, Fizzers, Love Hearts, Parma Violets, Squashies and many more.

To celebrate its 95th birthday, Swizzels wanted to run a campaign that celebrates the success of the much-loved brand and praises the support they’ve had from fans over the years.

The birthday campaign includes a competition to find the Ultimate Swizzels Super Fan, with multiple prizes, including Swizzels sweets, a VIP once-in-a-lifetime factory tour and £1,000 cash.

Flaunt Digital are behind the ideation and development of the campaign, with their creative team producing the campaign’s visual identity and executing the social strategy. The PR and paid media team are amplifying activity through press outreach and media including a dedicated TikTok advertising strategy.

Hannah Thompson, creative lead at Flaunt Digital, said, “The campaign was one of celebration for the Swizzels brand and its loyal fans, now and over the past 95 years.

“Previous campaigns we have worked on with Swizzels, such as Marvellous Mallows – Marvellous or Madness, already had a product identity, which we weaved into the campaign identity. This campaign was different, it was all-encompassing of the Swizzles brand and a number of their key products.”

To create a celebratory atmosphere throughout the campaign, Flaunt developed a bright and contrasting colour palette taking inspiration from key products such as Drumstick Lollies, Refreshers, and Double Lollies. Social content such as quizzes, nostalgic imagery and competition entries used subtle confetti elements, hinting at parties, to add a sense of movement and celebration to static posts.

“We’re really excited to see the campaign coming to life on social media and some of the entries from Swizzels Super Fans are amazing,” Thompson added.

Swizzels marketing manager Sarah-Louise Heslop said: “The Flaunt Digital campaign is fully integrated and allows us to celebrate with our loyal fans in the search for the Swizzels Super Fan. We love to see the competition entries and are seeing strong engagement.”
