Screen Yorkshire has opened a new Film Office in Leeds as part of its aim to make Yorkshire and Humber a “world-class hub” for film and TV.
Two weeks after Channel 4 announced it was to locate its new HQ in the city, Screen Yorkshire hopes the move will open up further opportunities to UK and international producers.
It says it will allow it to “ramp up existing activity” and provide a “one-stop-shop” for all filming enquiries in the region.
Screen Yorkshire offers production financing through the Yorkshire Content Fund, which since 2012 has invested in 40 film and TV projects including Ackley Bridge, National Treasure, The Great Train Robbery and Peaky Blinders.
Sally Joynson, CEO of Screen Yorkshire, said: “Our dedicated team and resource will provide a single point of contact for producers wanting to film in the region – and provide them with a bespoke service to give them the advice and support they need to deliver their project.
“Together with the news that Channel 4 is moving its national headquarters to the region, the opening of Screen Yorkshire’s Film Office today sends a clear message to screen industry creatives far and wide that Yorkshire is open for business and ready to welcome them.”
The opening follows last month’s news that Screen Skills (formerly Creative Skillset) is working with Screen Yorkshire and the National Film and Television School to establish Yorkshire as the pilot region for its proposed Centre of Excellence for Film & Television.
And amid a spate of positive news for the city lately, UKTV and Endemel Shine North have announced plans to open Leeds offices.
