Screen Scotland is seeking applicants who hope to establish their own community cinema with funding from the Launch Fund, administered by Cinema for All, with just two weeks remaining until the February 29th deadline.
Applicants receive £300 bursaries, plus support from the Launch team to make community cinemas a reality, and a success.
All successful applicants will receive:
- A welcome session – where you will meet your Cinema For All coach and discuss your goals for your cinema (up to 30 mins).
- 1 x starting up workshop – this helps you know all the important information to screen films, as well as chance to start forming your ideas for your cinema and ask any questions (90 mins).
- 1 x workshop in a topic of your choice (venue and equipment, special events, film programming or fundraising) (90 mins).
- 1 x group Launch cohort marketing workshop – this will be an opportunity to meet your fellow Launch cohort and share your experience as well as learn tips and tools for marketing your brand new cinema and screenings. This will take place towards the end of April and there will be two dates to choose from (90 mins).
- 1 x reflection session – reflect with your coach at the end of the coaching programme to reflect on your goals and how far you’ve come (up to 30 mins).
- A £300 bursary to put on your first screening which will take place by end of June 2024.
- Free equipment hire from the Cinema For All equipment scheme for your first screening (Cinema For All members only and for equipment bookings made by 25th May 2024).
Applications to the fund are welcome from anywhere in the UK, but Screen Scotland notes that Cinema for All is particularly keen to receive applications from groups in the Scottish Borders, where there is currently less cinema provision than in other parts of the country.
Cinema for All also operates a low-cost equipment rental scheme for community cinema groups, with hire starting at just £50 for members, and will be hosting its 2024 Community Cinema Conference at Sheffield’s Workstation in June.
