GEM Display, which operates Scotland’s largest premium digital site in central Edinburgh, has teamed up with rock icon Fish, previously of Marillion, to promote his forthcoming releases.
David Watson, sales director of GEM Display, said: “Many years ago, when I was 15, I slept rough overnight at Picardy Place in central Edinburgh with my best friends to secure tickets to see my favourite band, Marillion, play at the Edinburgh Playhouse. We bagged our tickets, but before the gig my family decided to relocate to England, so I never did get to see the band. I reluctantly agreed to the move South after being bribed with a pet dog, but I always regretted never being able to see the band live as they have always been one of my favourites.”
Watson added that it was his daughter who persuaded him to get in touch with Fish, now a solo artist, which ultimately led to GEM Display working with the star to plug his latest releases, including the giant ad at Picardy Place: “Yesterday, when we launched the ad, I had the great pleasure of meeting one of my music heroes, Fish, at the site,” Watson continued. “The proverb says ‘don’t meet your heroes’ but I wasn’t disappointed. Fish was wonderful, and I had a great time in his company.”
Watson will finally get to see Fish play live too, as the singer has invited his family to attend an upcoming gig and hang out backstage afterwards: “Both my kids are big fans and super excited. My daughter has kept my original unripped ticket stub for the concert I missed,” he said. “A tip for young parents out there, brainwash your children at a young age to have your taste in music. It just makes traveling long distances in the car, and life in general a lot easier.”
GEM Display operate Scotland’s largest premium out of home screen ‘Picardy Place’ located in central Edinburgh which is the only permanent large format display within the world heritage site, measuring an impressive 166m sq.
