Yorkshire Coast TV has been awarded the license to run local television services in Scarborough.
Run by Estuary TV in Grimsby, the company already broadcasts a local service for North Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire on Freeview Channel 8 and Virgin Media 879.
It was the only company that applied to run the service and in its submission to Ofcom, it stated that a new studio and production office would be based at the Yorkshire Coast College main campus in Scarborough.
A team of 3 would be based in the town, working alongside colleagues in Grimsby and it hopes to begin broadcasting on September 16th next year.
Channel bosses stated that in year one it would aim to have 5 hours of local programming every week, which would rise to 7 hours from year 2 onwards. Repeats per week would take up 55 hours in year one, falling to 53 hours from year 2.
In a schedule submitted as part of the application, it said that there would be 3×5 minute new bulletins every weekday, with a longer 15 minute news show in the early evening.
“We plan to broadcast every day for 18 hours (0600-2400 approximately), initially on a 3 hour rolling schedule, containing the local news and a mix of local and sub-regional programming and other non-local, mixed genre programming that has been bought, in conjunction with the Grimsby licence and other L-DTPS licence holders,” stated the application.
Estuary TV’s only shareholder is the Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education.
