Manchester indie, Salamanda Media, has been commissioned to make a new documentary series for BBC Scotland.
Return to Uist is a 4×30 minute series following a young family as they leave the London rat-race for a remote island in the Outer Hebrides, where they’ve bought a 10-acre wild croft.
Without any farming experience and on a limited budget, they plan to build a house and work the land.
While it’s an unknown for “city boy” Alexander, it’s a return for his partner Susannah who spent most of her childhood on the island.
“Two years in the making, following Alexander and Susannah’s extraordinary new life in the Outer Hebrides is pure escapist telly at a time when so many are craving a simpler and more affordable way of life,” explained Salamanda Media co-founders and Executive Producers Sally Evans and Amanda De Freitas.
The documentary has been filmed and produced by Mike Healy.
“Alexander and Susannah’s story is both uplifting and authentic. It also highlights the strong sense of community and natural beauty of North Uist,” said BBC Scotland Commissioning Editor Steve Allen.
It will air this Autumn.
