Liverpool Royal Court is on the lookout for performers to be part of a “Community Chorus” who will perform as part of an upcoming fictionalisation of the life of legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly.
The theatre is looking for community actors to play a pivotal role in Red or Dead, with some singing and acting. No experience is necessary, interest in football is a bonus, but not essential.
Peter Mullan (Ozark, Westworld, Mum) will star as Shankly in the show, which will premiere at the Royal Court in 2025, telling a fictionalised story of the Liverpool Manager based on the novel by David Peace, and adapted for the stage and directed by Phillip Breen.
The show is one of a pair of football-themed outings at the theatre next year. Balancing out the red shenanigans, a brand new show with a blue tinge, written by Helen Serafinowicz (Motherland, Nova Jones), will premiere at the Royal Court in a blockbuster summer show. The Legend of Rooney’s Ring promises to be “the ultimate Scouse tale of sword and sorcery,” and strikers we assume.
Tickets for both shows go on sale today, Tuesday 10 September.
