Rise Academy, now in its third year, is running a series of free Summer School days to encourage 11-18 year olds into technical careers in TV and media production, and for the first time this year that includes two Northern dates at dock10 in MediaCity.
Rise is an organisation focused on supporting diverse talent in technical roles in broadcast and production, and encouraging more young people to consider these career paths. The academy offers an unparalleled opportunity for young people to dive into the world of media technology, and boasts a leadership team made up of former CTO of BT Sport Andy Beale, managing director of Dovetail Creative Lisa Collins and senior director – global IT infrastructure architect at Warner Bros. Discovery Jackie Howes.
The scheme is run completely by industry volunteers, with support from broadcasters, production companies and technical manufacturers providing hands-on support.
It is free for 11-18 year olds to attend, and participants will experience a dynamic, real-world introduction to media production, guided by industry pros. The curriculum includes building and operating a TV studio, managing an outside broadcast (OB) truck, creating graphics, engaging in editing and post-production, exploring virtual production, and understanding the implications of cloud technology.
The Salford dates take place on August 1 and 2. More information can be found, and free tickets can be booked here.
