The BBC has announced that 4 of its top-rated dramas from the last 12 months have been recommissioned, half of them are based in Liverpool.
The Responder became the BBCs second biggest drama of the year so far – second only to The Tourist.
The Liverpool-based police series launched with nearly 10m viewers across 30 days.
It was former police officer, Tony Schumacher’s, first original series for television and the second season of 5 x 60 minute episodes will again film in the city.
Schumacher’s mentor during the scripting process was Jimmy McGovern, whose series, Time, has also been recommissioned.
Time had nearly 12m viewers over 30 days for its entire series. The next series of 3 x 60 minute episodes will also be based in Liverpool, but with a new cast and set in an all-female prison.
“The BBC is on fire creatively and the return of four of our biggest dramas over the last year demonstrates the sheer scale and range of storytelling on the BBC,” said Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer.
The fourth recommission is Scotland’s Vigil, which was the UK’s most watched new drama launch since Bodyguard in 2018.
