Radio and broadcasting legend Ken Bruce, aka Mr PopMaster himself, will present and introduce a concert of iconic British pop in conjunction with Manchester’s Hallé Orchestra at The Bridgewater Hall on Saturday, July 15 at 7.30pm.
Featuring the full force of the Hallé, conducted by David Arnold, the concert celebrates more than fifty years of British pop, with chart-toppers specially arranged for the Hallé and West End singing stars Jon Boydon and Laura Tebbutt.
Bruce said: “As a life-long fan of pop music, I am delighted to be presenting The Best of British Pop on Saturday 15th July which celebrates some of the greatest pop hits of all time. The Hallé, alongside singers Jon Boydon and Laura Tebbutt are sure to give these classic songs a fantastic new twist and I can’t wait to take you on a whirlwind tour of fifty years of the greatest chart toppers ever written.”
The playlist promises a genre-defying range of hits from unadulterated cheese to classic rock, all reinterpreted by one of the UK’s finest orchestras, and no strangers to stepping outside of the classical box in previous collaborations with the likes of Mercury Prize winners Elbow.
The sneak peek at the playlist seen by Prolific North includes hits from Wham to Deep Purple, taking in Manchester favourites Take That, stadium fillers from Queen and the Rolling Stones, and croon-along classics from Tom Jones and Robbie Williams en route.
If that hasn’t sold it, what will?
