John Myers, the former boss of GMG Radio is undergoing treatment for cancer.
In a brief statement, he explained that doctors had discovered a tumour on his tonsil and tongue.
“We all go through tough times on occasion, but Linda and I thank you for your best wishes and this, alongside the support of my great family and caring friends, will ensure it won’t be long before I’m through to the other side,” he wrote.
He is currently undergoing treatment and he hopes to be back to full health soon.
Myers has a long connection to the North of England, starting out at BBC Radio Cumbria, before heading to Border TV. He began his radio career under the name of John Morgan, at Red Rose and Radio Tees, originally as a presenter.
He later became managing director of Century Radio and was behind Smooth and Real Radio. In 2010 he became CEO of the Radio Academy and was asked by the BBC to review its Radio 1, 2, 6Music and 1Xtra stations.
In 2013 he joined Billy Anderson to acquire 2 rock magazines from Future plc, to launch Team Rock, it went into adminstration in 2016 – Myers had retired prior to this.
