Quay Street Productions signs up to Disney+ adaptation of Nordic Noir ‘Playdate’

Quay Street's Nicola Shindler

Manchester’s Quay Street Productions is to collaborate with Brightstar on Disney+’s adaptation of Alex Dahl’s Nordic Noir novel Playdate.

The collaboration brings together producers Tanya Seghatchian, a former head of the UK Film Council’s development fund, The Power of the Dog EP John Woodward, and Rochdale’s finest Nicola Shindler, who counts Queer as Folk, Happy Valley and It’s a Sin among her portfolio.

Playdate follows young mum Elisa, who sends her nine-year-old daughter to a playdate with her new best friend. On arriving to pick her up, Elisa discovers the house completely empty and her daughter, and the supposed family who lived there, nowhere to be found. Desperate Elisa and husband Fred embark upon a manhunt across Europe, while finding themselves suspected of the crime by police. Playdate was American/Norwegian author Dahl’s fourth novel.

The five-part series is set to begin production over the summer in UK and France. Playdate will be directed by Palme d’Or nominee Eva Husson (Girls of the Sun), from a script from Catherine Moulton (Hijack). There is no news on casting as yet.
