Deputy editor Sykes leaves Blackpool Gazette for UCLan

Andy Sykes

Deputy editor Andy Sykes has left the Blackpool Gazette after six and a half years to become a part-time journalism lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire.

Sykes began his career as a trainee reporter at The Gazette and returned for a second spell after five years at sister title the Lancashire Post.

He tweeted: “It’s been an honour and privilege to help lead our coverage, especially in recent years, with some of the most committed and brilliant colleagues you could wish for.

“But it’s time to move on to pastures new. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years and please keep supporting your local media, it is important now more than ever.”

Sykes graduated from UCLan in 2002.
