Jeremy Clifford, most recently editor-in-chief of JPI Media and a former editor of the Yorkshire Post and Sheffield Star, has been announced as Archant’s new chief content officer.
Last month it was revealed that Clifford was one of five executives leaving JPI Media – which owns regional titles including the Yorkshire Post and Lancashire Evening Post – in the wake of its £10.2m sale to National World.
He will take up his new role at Cheshire Life and Living Edge publisher Archant next month following the departure of former chief content officer Matt Kelly.
Former Daily Mirror executive Kelly is becoming CEO and editor-in-chief of The New European after leading a consortium to conduct a management buyout of the New European, the anti-Brexit weekly founded in the aftermath of the 2016 referendum.
New York Times chief executive Mark Thompson and former Financial Times editor Lionel Barber are also involved, with a total of 14 investors on board.
Kelly said: “I’m very excited to lead this next, new chapter in the remarkable life of the New European, building on its success of the past several years.
“Since the referendum, the New European has shown that there is a significant market for high-quality, informative, provocative and entertaining journalism written for an audience who care deeply about both Britain and Europe’s future.”
