Kao Data has announced a £350m investment in a new Manchester data centre.
The 39,000m2 former industrial site at Kenwood Point, will be transformed into a 40MW (megawatt) operation, with 9 data halls. It’s set to be operation in late 2025.
This will be Kao Data’s first centre in the North of England and has been chosen because of Manchester’s position as one of the UK’s fastest growing technology hubs.
“Our move into Manchester marks an important next step in the continued evolution of our organisation, and we’re excited to bring our industry-leading data centre platform to one of the UK’s most influential technology and business hubs,” said Spencer Lamb, Chief Commercial Officer, Kao Data.
“We believe our new facility will set a new standard for sustainable data centres within the region and will provide a piece of foundational infrastructure that supports both Northern England’s advanced computing clusters, and the UK Governments’ ambitions to become a technological and economic powerhouse for HPC and AI.”
Lamb added that Greater Manchester was perfectly placed to play “a pivotal role” in the government’s ambitions to become a world-leading superpower in science and tech.
Kao stated that the new site would follow its “award-winning high performance design, efficiency and sustainability ethos.” And would provide a sustainable, OCP-Ready™ and NVIDIA-DGX Ready certified infrastructure platform for advanced computing.
