The UK’s largest independent online cake retailer, Sponge.co.uk, has appointed integrated agency Prohibition to handle its PR.

The Leeds agency will provide retained PR support, targeting B2C and B2B opportunities for the retailer.

Sponge.co.uk, based in Holt, Norfolk, hand-makes its cakes and brownies using quality, local ingredients. The brand provides next day delivery anywhere in the UK, offering a huge range of free-from products without compromising on taste, to include gluten free, dairy free, no refined sugar and vegan. As well as selling direct to consumers, Sponge also supplies wholesale cakes to cafes, restaurants, attractions and retailers.

Mark Joll, director and founder of Sponge.co.uk, said: “We have seen significant growth in recent years, which we have invested back into our product range, developing our dietary solutions as a big priority. Other products like the baby sponges, which caught the eye of British Airways, and our Cake Card have seen huge success too. We’re focussed on making our offering even more competitive and are thrilled to be working [with Prohibition] to help spread the word about Sponge.”

Chris Norton, managing director and founder of Prohibition, added: “We couldn’t be happier to be working with Sponge to raise brand awareness and increase sales of its wonderful cakes. Sponge is the latest addition to our roster of FMCG clients and working in this sector allows the team to really flex their creative muscles when it comes to our comms approach. The proof of our work really will be in the pudding.”
