Mark Pougatch says he has “come to the end of the road” with BBC Radio 5 Live after more than two decades.

The freelance broadcaster joined the station in 1998 and went on to become presenter of the flagship Saturday edition, Sports Report. He has covered World Cups, Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and Wimbledon, as well as broadcasting from several England tours as part of the Test Match Special team.

Having presented Football Focus and Match of the Day on TV for the BBC, he is now the lead sports presenter for ITV and also works for BT Sport and Premier League TV.

He said: “Just to say that after an incredibly happy time there I’ve come to the end of the road now at BBC Radio 5 Live. To present 5 Live Sport and Sports Report has been a complete privilege and I’m immensely grateful to everyone I’ve worked with on both sides of the microphone and everybody who’s listened.

“I’m very sorry I didn’t have the chance to say goodbye on air, but I know 5 Live will go from strength to strength and I’m very busy with my TV work at ITV, BT Sport and Premier League TV, but there’s plenty of radio in me as well and I’m looking forward to my next challenge.”

Pougatch has also presented BBC Television’s Match Of The Day and Football Focus.
