Lancashire Police have arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of malicious communications offences and perverting the course of justice.
The man took footage from inside a police cordon close to the River Wyre on the day that the body of Nicola Bulley was found.
The material was then posted online.
Nicola Bulley disappeared while walking her dog by the River Wyre, leading to a 23 day search.
“A 34-year-old man from Kidderminster was arrested this morning, with assistance from our colleagues at West Mercia Police, on suspicion of malicious communications offences and perverting the course of justice,” said a spokesperson from Lancashire Police.
“Our priority is, and has always been, to support Nicola’s family and the wider community in St Michael’s. We hope this arrest provides reassurance that we take concerns seriously and will act on them.”
The man has since been bailed with conditions.
Throughout the investigation, police had warned social media users against playing “private detectives” as reports suggested that a number of had gone to the village to produce their own content around the case.
