Plans for a major new development on the former Yorkshire Post site have been approved by Leeds City Council.

The newspaper’s iconic old building on Wellington Bridge Street in Leeds, which was also the home for the Yorkshire Evening Post, has now been demolished and will make way for a mixed-use development consisting of 50,000sqm of offices, 200 homes, bars, restaurants and leisure facilities.

The four buildings will rise to a height of 16 storeys.

Director Tim Waring, of planning consultants Quod, said: “The council’s support for this scheme will spark the early regeneration of this high profile site, bringing about a huge transformation to this part of the city.”
