Former Good Morning Britain and ITV News Tyne Tees presenter Pip Tomson, who jumped the good ship GMB to join the people’s ship GB News last year, has jumped another ship, announcing her departure from GB News last night.
Tomson updated her employment status on Twitter, saying “I have left GB News. I will decompress now & map out life’s next crazy adventures”.
Tomson’s departure comes shortly after GB News announced plans to shed 14% of its workforce, or around 40 jobs, following reports of a £42m loss in 2022/23.
The channel has recently bid farewell to some of its biggest-drawing presenters, including Dan Wooton, who quit to start his own online channel following a misogyny row over his show.
In March, GB News was also found to have broken Ofcom broadcasting guidelines on five occasions in May and June 2023, with other investigations still ongoing.
Former GB News poster boy and launch host Andrew Neill, who quit the channel after less than two weeks as its public face, also recently described the channel as at the “nutty end” of politics and “an outlet for bizarre conspiracy theories and anti-vaxxers” while giving evidence in parliament.
York-born Tomson came to GB News as something of a godsend being, like Neill, a respected journalist who appeared to lend the channel a degree of credence among the conspiracy theories and Fox News-inspired shouting as information.
The former GMB presenter described the opportunity to join GB News as a “no brainer” when she announced the move last year, adding that, compared to her previous employers (mostly ITV) “GB News is different and I’m loving that freedom and individuality.”
