HarperCollins has acquired the rights to Peter Kay’s new book about his love of television.
TV: Big Adventures on the Small Screen will be a follow up to his 2007 bestseller, The Sound of Laughter, which remains the UK’s biggest-selling hardback autobiography of all time.
“All of us at HarperNonFiction are absolutely over the moon to be publishing Peter,” said Managing Director, Kate Elton, who negotiated the deal with Publishing Director, Joel Simons.
“He’s quite simply one of the most beloved entertainers in Britain, and T.V. is a hilariously funny, wonderfully warm journey through the popular culture of the past 40 years. Chock-full of TV gossip, brilliant one-liners and, of course, irresistible observational comedy, it’s exactly the book every Peter Kay fan has been waiting for.”
The book is set to look back on his 40-year television career, which started making tea at Granada Television in Manchester before he made hit shows, Phoenix Nights, Max and Paddy and Car Share.
Kay also presented Goodbye Granadaland, which looked back on the history of the broadcaster’s historic Quay Street headquarters as it moved to MediaCity.
“I’d wanted for years to write about my obsession for TV and working in it,” he explained.
“It’s been such a massive pleasure recalling the adventures I’ve had over the last 25 years both in front and behind the camera, and I hope people will enjoy reading about the journey as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.”
Kay is currently performing his stand-up show, Better Late Than Never, which runs until the end of 2025.
The new book, which will be supported by a “huge marketing and publicity campaign” will be published on 28th September.
