Paralympics opening ceremony draws 2m viewers

Channel 4’s coverage of the Paris 2024 Paralympics Opening Ceremony attracted a peak audience of nearly 2m (1.9m – 16.2% of the total audience share) – the audience averaged an impressive 1.4m (11.7% of audience share) for more than four hours’ coverage from 6.30pm to 10.45pm.

Its coverage also helped drive a huge spike in traffic interest the website to help disabled people find a local sports club saw a massive surge in traffic last night, as thousands of people rushed to find out about clubs and activities for disabled people near them inspired by the Paralympics Opening Ceremony.

The Every Body Moves website, run by ParalympicsGB, saw a massive 555% increase in users yesterday after Channel 4 showed a QR code on screen which took people to the site during its coverage of the Opening Ceremony.

The site, which lists more than 19,000 activities/clubs across the UK, had more than 4,000 users looking to find out more about their local teams, as the ParalympicsGB team arrived at the Place de la Concorde to mark the start of the Paralympics.

Channel 4 will be supporting Every Body Moves throughout the Paralympics by showing the QR code and inviting people with disabilities to get involved in grass roots sports.
